The KwaZulu Natal Dolphin Coast forms part of the North Coast and stretches from the Umdloti River all the way to the Tugela River. Though there is not much to say about this region, there is this to say. The area is a dolphin's haven where dolphins frolic and play. Many dolphins are seen here year in and year out, including the humpback dolphins, even though they are rarely seen by the human eye.

The dolphins are extremely playful and come out to play quite often, sometimes swimming along with humans, and often to make small talk to boats with passengers on. The Dolphin Coast thus derived it's name from all the playful and amazingly clever dolphins that live in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean, just off the North Coast shore.

There are a range of modern facilities available for the traveler to the Dolphin Coast. The Dolphin Coast is also backed with many hotels and seaside resorts in a subtropical environment. Golden beaches and rock pools line the shorelines, making for perfect sunset strolls.

There are several beaches following the north coast shoreline, including Ballito Bay, Zinkwazi Beach, Umhlali Beach, Tinley Manor Beach, Thompson's Bay, Salt Rock, Clarks Bay, Sheffield Beach, Shaka's Rock and Blythedale. If you are not an expert swimmer, you should choose a beach where there are life guards, such as Willard Beach. The waters of the Indian Ocean in the North Coast can be quite rough at times, with a steep decline from the beach into the sea.

Sports on the North Coast, or otherwise called, Dolphin Coast, includes sea bathing, surfing, skiboats, fishing, rock fishing, scuba diving, wind surfing and swimming. There are also many tourist attractions to the region which makes it a popular holiday place to visit.
