LIMPOPO

The Limpopo Province boasts with the most diverse range of landscapes from grasslands to rolling hills, from farming communities to busy city life. It offers the traveler everything that South Africa has to offer in one picture perfect package. From sweeping planes to true African bushveld, all is located in the Limpopo Province.

GEOGRAPHICS

The Limpopo Province is bordered by Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and North West, Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa, formerly known as the Northern Transvaal. The Limpopo river marks the border between South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana. Savannah's, mountain ranges, subtropical zones and grasslands are a promise of what is in this province.

Rainfall falls mostly in the summer months, with annual rainfall totals about 300mm per year, between November and March. Temperaturs in the summer ranges from 17? C to 27? C and in winter months from 4? C to about 20? C. Even though these temperatures are average, this is one of the hottest provinces in South Africa where summer temperatures can go up to well in the 30's.

LAYOUT

Like mentioned before, there are grasslands, rolling hills, sweeping planes and thick bushveld that marks this province. The capital city is Polokwane, formerly known as Pietersburg. It borders the Northern section of the Kruger National Park, and forms the borders between South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. The province is completely inland.

SURROUNDINGS

Surrounding towns includes Louis Trichardt, Messina, Phalaborwa, Potgietersrus, Thabazimbi and Warmbaths. The Kruger National Park, Magoebaskloof and Zion City Moriah.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

For the traveler, cool clothes, or safari clothes are suggested for coming to this province. Pack in a light jersey in summer time, but be prepared for a hot day! During the winter, dress warmly, but layered as you will have to throw off layers during the day.

AIRPORTS

There are no major airports in this province, although there are a range of smaller airfields, the main one being in Pietersburg. The Limpopo province also hosts one of the main military air bases in South Africa.

ATTRACTIONS

The Capricorn Region stretches from Ysterberg, accros the Wolkberge to the tropic area in the North. The perfect stopover.

The Bushveld Region starting at the Waterberg Mountains provide a spectacular schenic route. The area is rich with culture and tradition, with several different tribes having a steak in it.....

The Soutpansberg mountain region forms part of the northern border of Limpopo, and includes the Limpopo river, and rocky awe inspiring scenic coutryside.

The Valley of The Olifants is located in the eastern part of the Limpopo province and provides a rich cultural scene of the Lowveld and the Kruger National Park. The great Olifants River flows through the region, through the Kruger Park and forms the border of the province in the south.

Makapansgat Valley has many caves and forms an important part of the heritage of South Africa. It's very significant both historically and archeologically and is a must see.

Boabab Trees in are widely spread thoughout Limpopo, and some are said to be over 3000 years old. Most found in the Northern part are only between 3-500 years old though.
