THE NORTH WEST PROVINCE

The North West Province is landlocked, with sweeping grasslands, covered bushveld, and stretches from Rustenberg to the Vaal River. It offers a very different landscape from most of South Africa, with several romantic settings ideal for weddings, honeymoon and conferences. Everything you could want is all in one, in this province.

GEOGRAPHICS

North West province as an annual rain fall during summer, with about 360mm per year. Temperatures rances from 17 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius in the summer and from 3 degrees Celsius to 21 degrees Celsius in the winter months. Winters are dry and can become quite cold. Summers can be anything from a moderate temperature to well in the 30's.

LAYOUT

The Magaliesberg Mountain range stretches from Pretoria to Rustenburg and is a well known land mark in this province. On the southern side, the vaal river flows along the border of the province, and the province is surrounded by Gauteng, Free State, Botswana, Northern Province and the former homeland of Bophuthatswana. Mmabatho, the formerly in Bophutatswana is now the capital of the North West province.

SURROUNDINGS

Other towns round about include Brits, Klerksdorp, Lichtenburg, Mafikeng, Potchefstroom, Rustenburg, Sun City and Vanderbijlpark. Truly, a big diversity streatching across 116190 sq km's

TRAVEL INFORMATION

For the traveler, cool clothes, shorts and t-shirts are suggested for coming to this province. The summers are generally hot, so no need for a jacket. In winter time, average winter clothes like jeans and a jersey would be sufficient for mid day, if you are not doing any activities. When activities are involved, layered clothing should be worn.

AIRPORTS

There are no major airports in this province, with the closest being Johannesburg International, about an hour and twenty minutes away on a good day with no traffic delays.

ATTRACTIONS

Sun City is an extravagant hotel and entertainment centre with a casino, holiday resort, mock up pools, game reserve and home to the world famous Nedbank Million Dollar Golf tournament. It has it's own airport and is also home of the mysterious “Lost World” palace.

The Madikwe Game Reserve is close to the Botswana border, home to the Big Five, wild dogs, spotted hyenas and other wild predator animals.

Pilanesberg National Park is adjacent to Sun City, and also hosts the Big Five. It is two hours from Johannesburg, and easy to reach. The large number of animals in this park is one of the major attractions.

The Bojanala East, situated close to Gauteng is one of the most scenic regions of the province. Filled with water activites, abseiling, mountain sports, hang gliding and much much more, this is truly an adventurer's paradise.

Bojanala Rustenberg is covered with natural Bushveld habitation, with the Magaliesberg mountain range and a number of privately owned game farms.

The Bophirma Region covers a vast expanse of thick African bushveld Savannah. Game parks have lions, buffalo and rhinos as well as many other African animals.

The Southern region hosts yellow sunflower fields and maize fields, classic of the area, with dotted bushveld strips in between. This part of the province is a hikers paradise, with several hiking trails, mountain biking trails, white water rafting, canoeing, abseiling and much much more.
