CAPE L'AGULHAS - SOUTHERN MOST POINT OF AFRICA

Have you ever been to the most southern point of the African continent? Well, you can, while visiting South Africa.

Cape L'Agulhas is situated at the most southern point of the African continent. The little town boasts as a holiday town, not yet discovered by all the tourists and travelers to this country. With about 200 permanent residents, this quiet little town is the perfect place to rest while on holiday.

Cape L'Agulhas has a a lighthouse, which was built in 1848 and is still standing. The lighthouse is open to visitors who feel brave enough to climb to the top and look out. There is also a lighthouse restaurant at the lighthouse. Although this lighthouse is no longer manned, it is controlled by the SA Navy from a nearby Naval Base.

In addition to the lighthouse, there are many national parks in the area, including the Cape L'Agulhas nature reserve. Walk between Cape “fynbos” towards the most southern point, which is still open to visitors. There are many little wild animals all over the nature reserves and hiking trails, which makes it a worth while hike!

Perhaps the most one of the things that make Cape L'Agulhas so famous is that the Indian and Atlantic oceans meet at this very significant spot on the African continent. The temperature of the water depends on the wind direction. If the wind is coming from the southern or western side, the water will be coming in from the cold Atlantic ocean. If the wind is coming from the east, the water will reflect the wonderfully warm temperatures of the Indian ocean.

Cape L'Agulhas is full of guest houses, hotels and accommodation spots for the traveler. From a caravan park right up to the most luxurious guest house accommodation is available. In addition, there are a couple of curio and art shops that is a must visit.

Our pick of the best is the Bietou guest house, in Cape L'Aghulhas, where you can find private and comfortable accommodation at the most southern point of the African continent.
